Chelsea earned a convincing 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, with goals from Reece James, Pedro Neto and Josh Acheampong piling further pressure on Forest boss Ange Postecoglou.
Forest dominated much of the first half but failed to make their chances count, leaving Postecoglou’s position under increasing scrutiny. Chelsea responded with three half-time changes that transformed their performance. Neto’s superb cross set up Acheampong to head in the opener just four minutes after the restart.
Josh Acheampong marked a memorable moment in his young career by scoring his first senior goal during Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, the academy graduate described the moment as “surreal.”
“It’s a proud moment for me and my family,” Acheampong said. “Having Reece James as captain is a real inspiration. I’m grateful to him and all the other players who’ve come through the academy, they’ve set a great example.”
Moments later, Chelsea doubled their advantage when James teed up Neto, who fired home a low free-kick. James then sealed the victory late on to complete a much-improved second-half display from the visitors. Reece James capped off a strong Chelsea display with a goal from a corner as the Blues cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory at the City Ground.
Despite Malo Gusto’s late red card in the 87th minute, Chelsea held firm to secure all three points and climb from seventh to fourth in the Premier League table, moving above Bournemouth, Manchester City and Crystal Palace.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, captain Reece James praised his team’s performance:
“It was amazing,” James said. “We’ve always found it tough coming back from international breaks, and this is a super tough place to come. In the second half we came alive and got the three points.”
Nottingham Forest sack Ange Postecoglou after poor run of results
Nottingham Forest have confirmed the dismissal of head coach Ange Postecoglou following a string of disappointing results and performances.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the club said:
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that, after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.”
Postecoglou’s tenure ends after a difficult spell in which Forest scored just one goal in his first five Premier League matches in charge, the fewest by any new manager since Sean Dyche at Burnley in 2014.
The team also failed to find the net in three consecutive home league games for the first time since October 1998. At full-time in Forest’s latest defeat, Postecoglou was seen standing alone on the pitch at the City Ground, applauding the few remaining supporters, a moment that now appears to have marked the end of his brief reign.
