Abuja, Nigeria — The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the fatal road crash that occurred in Gadabiu on the Obajana-Lokoja expressway, urging commuters to actively speak out against reckless driving.

The tragic accident, which took place on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at around 6:10 p.m., involved a Sino Truck and a Toyota Hiace bus carrying 27 people. Nineteen victims, 14 adults and 5 children, were burned beyond recognition, while 8 adults were injured and taken to Fisayo Hospital in Obajana for treatment. The deceased were buried at Obajana Central Mosque in line with Islamic rites.
While commiserating with the victims’ families, the Corps Marshal stressed that the incident could have been avoided and called on Nigerians to take greater responsibility for safety by speaking out whenever drivers exhibit dangerous behaviour. He noted that similar public engagement in 2024 helped reduce road crashes by 10 percent.
In response to the crash, Mohammed directed all FRSC Sector Commanders to step up enforcement of mandatory speed-limiting devices in commercial vehicles and enhance public education efforts. He further announced plans to increase surveillance and patrols on high-risk routes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The FRSC emphasized that it would take decisive action against speed violators and reminded all road users that ensuring safety on the roads is a shared responsibility.
