Nigerian Celebrity Chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, is set to attempt cooking the world’s largest pot of Jollof rice.

The event, scheduled for September 12, 2025, will take place at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos, in partnership with Gino Nigeria. Tagged #GinoworldJollofFestwithHildaBaci, it is expected to attract thousands of food lovers and cultural enthusiasts.

Baci, who gained international recognition in 2023 after setting the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, revealed details of the project in a video posted on Instagram on Monday 1st, September 2025.

“I am making the executive decision to do 250 bags,” she announced, noting that the scale of the project had required careful planning.

She explained that cooking 250 bags of basmati rice would require 1,583 kilogrammes of tomato paste, evenly distributed between Gino tomato paste, pepper chicken paste and Jollof paste. “For one kg of rice, you would need between 0.20 to 0.35, but because it’s Nigerian Jollof, I’m going to use 0.30. That means I will need 1,583 kilogrammes of Gino tomato paste,” she stated.

The chef further disclosed that the cooking would demand about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice, translating to 264 bags, but she strategically settled on 250.

The giant pot designed for the record attempt has a volume of 22,619 litres, measuring six metres in both height and width. According to Baci, her target is to fill it up to at least 75 to 80 per cent.

“This will be the most delicious, largest pot of Nigerian Jollof rice you have ever tasted,” she said, adding that beyond the record attempt, the project is also about celebrating African cuisine and cultural identity.

The meal is projected to serve over 10,000 people, making the feat one of the largest communal food experiences in Nigeria’s recent history.
