The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for a strengthened partnership with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund to advance ongoing reforms and enhance operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid on Thursday said Disu made the call while receiving the Executive Secretary of the Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, alongside members of the Board of Directors during a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit provided a platform for strategic discussions aimed at deepening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Trust Fund, particularly in areas of personnel welfare, training, and operational capacity.

Speaking during the meeting, Sheidu reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting the police through sustained, needs-driven interventions. He highlighted the NPTF’s achievements, including the delivery of over 100 training programmes for more than 13,000 officers, execution of over 170 infrastructure projects nationwide, and initiatives spanning housing, healthcare, and smart policing systems.

He added that the Fund remains focused on improving operational readiness, modernising police facilities, and ensuring that all interventions align with the Force’s strategic priorities.

In his response, the IGP stressed that a more coordinated and strategically aligned partnership with the NPTF is critical to the success of the Force’s reform agenda. He described personnel welfare as a non-negotiable priority, noting that improved housing, accessible healthcare, and timely payment of insurance and welfare benefits are vital to maintaining morale, discipline, and operational effectiveness.

Disu also urged the Fund to prioritise junior officers in its welfare programmes, emphasising that lower-ranking personnel bear the brunt of operational duties and require structured and consistent support. The police chief reiterated his commitment to building a more responsive, technologically driven, and citizen-focused Nigeria Police Force through sustained collaboration with key stakeholders.
