Abuja, Nigeria
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu has urged officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to uphold unity, compassion, integrity, and professionalism as Muslims and Christians observe the sacred seasons of Ramadan and Lent.
Speaking at the Interdenominational Fitra Dinner held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Disu described the gathering as a symbolic event reflecting shared values of service, sacrifice, discipline, and devotion among officers, regardless of religious affiliation.
He noted that the event goes beyond breaking fast, emphasizing its role in fostering reflection, unity, and a stronger sense of togetherness within the Force. According to him, the rare overlap of Ramadan and Lent this year presents a unique opportunity for spiritual renewal, humility, prayer, and self-restraint.
The police chief stressed that both holy periods highlight the importance of compassion, patience, and service to humanity above personal interests. He added that the gathering sends a strong message that the Police Force remains united despite its diversity, with differences in religion and tradition serving as strengths rather than sources of division.
Disu further encouraged officers to use the season to strengthen patience in their interactions with the public and colleagues, demonstrate integrity in service, show kindness to the vulnerable, and renew their commitment to justice, fairness, and professionalism.
He also paid tribute to officers currently deployed across the country, including those at checkpoints and in remote or challenging environments, describing their sacrifices as vital to police operations nationwide.
The IGP prayed for peace in Nigeria, strength for police personnel, and comfort for citizens, expressing hope that the spiritual exercises of the season would contribute to a safer, more united, and prosperous nation.
The Interdenominational Fitra Dinner brought together police personnel in a demonstration of religious harmony and solidarity, reinforcing the Force’s commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence.
