Osun, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has announced plans to relocate registration points for the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise due to the closure of local government secretariats since February 17, 2025, as a result of the conflict between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). AfrikTimes has previously reported that the local government secretariats in Osun State have been shut for over 170 days, and this closure has had devastating effects on the citizens.

Dr Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, confirmed during a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Wednesday that alternative locations for the affected INEC offices have been identified to ensure the CVR proceeds smoothly. The CVR will commence on August 18, 2025, allowing prospective registrants to register online at www.cvr.inecnigeria.org before visiting their local government office for biometrics on August 25, 2025.

Agboke clarified that while INEC offices within local government secretariats are closed, they are working to relocate these offices and have communicated this to their headquarters. He also announced that preparations for the Osun governorship election on August 8, 2026, have begun, with party primaries scheduled to be held between November 24 and December 15, 2025. Candidates are to submit their particulars between January 15 and February 9, 2026. The Electoral Commissioner further urged political parties and stakeholders to adhere to the election timetable and combat vote-buying, emphasising the need for public education against selling votes. He called for continued support from all stakeholders to ensure a credible election process.
