A total of 180 stranded Nigerians returned home from Libya on Wednesday evening, marking a significant humanitarian effort to assist those in need.
The group arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos around 7:30 pm aboard a chartered Al-Buraq Airlines flight.
The returnees included 67 adult females, 55 adult males, 24 female children, 18 male children, and 16 infants.
This evacuation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Territorial Office. Upon their arrival, the Nigerian Immigration Service conducted biometric profiling to ensure proper documentation and support for the returnees.
In addition to this, various government agencies provided humanitarian assistance to the returnees to aid their reintegration into society.
The IOM continues to play a vital role in assisting Nigerians stranded abroad, and this latest evacuation underscores the organization’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of migrants. The government remains dedicated to providing the necessary support to help the returnees as they reintegrate into their communities and rebuild their lives.
