Abuja, Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force has celebrated the courage, resilience and growing influence of female officers as the world marks International Women’s Day 2026.
In a statement commemorating the day, the Force acknowledged the vital role women play across various departments, noting that their professionalism and dedication continue to enhance policing and justice delivery in Nigeria.
Aligning with this year’s global theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended female personnel for their courage, commitment and consistent demonstration of excellence in service.
The police leadership noted that women within the Force are increasingly breaking barriers in a profession historically dominated by men, while making significant contributions to the safety and security of the nation. It also stressed the importance of building a society where every woman is respected, protected and empowered to reach her full potential.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality and recognising the invaluable contributions of women within the institution and across the wider Nigerian society.
