Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has expressed satisfaction with the impact of his administration’s investments in the education sector, describing the results as visible, tangible and measurable.

‎The governor spoke on Sunday while presiding over a Basic Education Stakeholders’ Roundtable Meeting at the Government House, Dutse. The meeting was convened to review progress, challenges and opportunities within the state’s basic education sub-sector.

‎Governor Namadi said the achievements recorded so far are encouraging and reaffirmed his commitment to deploying all available resources to guarantee access to quality education for every child in the state.

‎According to him, sustained investment in education remains critical to strengthening Jigawa’s human capital base and realising its vision of becoming a prosperous and leading state in Nigeria.

He also pledged continued collaboration with donor partners, the Federal Government, as well as public and private stakeholders to further revitalise the education sector.

‎“Repositioning our education sector is the responsibility of every good citizen. We will continue to strengthen public participation in school management, monitoring and policy implementation,” the governor stated.

‎He noted that donor agencies and civil society organisations had briefed the government on the impact of their interventions, adding that independent assessments indicated significant progress in the sector.

“We are proud of the outcomes of these assessments. However, we have identified areas that require greater attention, and we will sustain our partnerships to overcome the challenges and ensure our education sector meets required standards,” he said.

‎Governor Namadi stressed that effective learning outcomes would remain a top priority, highlighting ongoing efforts in teacher recruitment, training and deployment, improved teaching and learning models, classroom infrastructure development, provision of instructional materials and scholarship support.

‎In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawal Yunusa Danzomo, explained that the roundtable brought together departments, agencies and institutions involved in education data management and service delivery.

He emphasised that tackling challenges in the education sector demands collective action, noting that stakeholders share a common goal of ensuring every child in Jigawa enrols in school, remains in school, progresses through all levels and successfully completes their education.

Dr. Danzomo disclosed that recent assessments showed marked improvements in school enrolment, pupil retention, transition rates and completion levels. He also cited notable progress in teacher recruitment, deployment, training, attendance and overall performance.

‎The commissioner attributed the gains to the political will demonstrated by Governor Namadi, the enabling environment created by his administration and the inclusive approach that allows stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to educational development.

‎The stakeholders’ meeting is part of Governor Namadi’s broader strategy to reposition the education sector as a foundation for sustainable human capital development in Jigawa State.

Development partners and non-governmental organisations present at the meeting included PLANE, AGILE, UNICEF, the Islamic Development Bank and Save the Children, among others.
