For the third time in just one week, Nigeria’s national power grid experienced another collapse on Saturday. Power generation plummeted around 8:16 a.m., leaving large parts of the country in the dark.
According to checks by our correspondent, power generation stood at 3,042 megawatts by 8 a.m. and had peaked at 3,968 megawatts earlier at 7 a.m. However, by 9 a.m., it had drastically dropped to just 47 megawatts. Distribution to power companies was recorded at zero megawatts at the time of reporting.
Earlier in the week, the grid also tripped off on Monday and Tuesday during restoration efforts. The cause of Saturday’s collapse remains unclear, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria could not be reached for comment.
