A faction of the People’s Democratic Party in Kano State has rejected the ward congresses conducted in the state on Saturday (today).
The Sadiq Aminu Wali faction of the PDP in a statement by its Chieftain, Muhaminnah Lamido, distanced itself from the results of the ward congresses.
The faction said that the process lacked the necessary transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness that are fundamental to upholding the democratic ideals of our great party.
Sadiq Aminu Wali was the Kano gubernatorial candidate of the PDP during the 2023 general election.
he statement read, “It is with deep concern that we note the deliberate exclusion of key stakeholders and legitimate party members in the build-up to the congresses, as well as several irregularities observed during the exercise. This process, which has been marred by a lack of internal democracy, runs counter to the principles that the PDP stands for and our commitment to ensuring that all party members are given an equal and fair opportunity to participate.’’
‘’Sadiq Aminu Wali, leader of our faction, has expressed dismay over the procedural failings and violations of the party’s guidelines. Despite repeated efforts to engage with the relevant party organs to resolve outstanding issues before the congresses, our legitimate concerns were disregarded, resulting in today’s flawed exercise.’’
“We urge the PDP’s national leadership to swiftly intervene and take necessary steps to address the anomalies witnessed today. This will be crucial in safeguarding the unity and integrity of the party, especially as we approach critical elections in Kano State.
‘’Our faction remains committed to upholding the principles of democracy, rule of law, and justice, and we call on our supporters to remain calm as we seek redress through appropriate party channels.’’
‘’We reaffirm our loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party and its ideals and will continue to work toward building a stronger, more unified party in Kano State.’’
