Lagos, Nigeria- Lagos State Government on Monday, 2 February 2026, announced that it had conducted a public sensitisation programme to educate residents on compliance with traffic and environmental regulations. The exercise was carried out through the Special Offences Mobile Court at the Lagos Safety Arena and in other key locations including Oshodi, Iyana Ipaja, Ojota, and Ikorodu.
The programme, themed Justice on Wheels: Know the Law, Keep Lagos Clean, Safe and Orderly, focused on common offences such as one-way traffic violations, misuse of Bus Rapid Transit lanes, and obstruction of public spaces.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), represented by the Director of Citizens’ Rights, Ogunsanya Jonathan, highlighted the state government’s commitment to ensuring justice remains accessible and corrective while promoting civic responsibility. Officials of the Ministry of Justice explained that the Mobile Court serves both enforcement and public education purposes, helping residents understand their legal obligations and the consequences of violations.
The Coordinator of the Special Offences Mobile Court, Olufemi Adekunle, stated that the sensitisation initiative was designed to bridge the information gap between the justice system and the public. He noted that bringing legal awareness directly to communities can help reduce avoidable offences and encourage voluntary compliance.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences body, Adetayo Akerele, emphasised that environmental cleanliness and traffic discipline are central to public safety. He noted that offences such as road obstruction, misuse of BRT lanes, and driving against traffic undermine efforts to keep the state orderly and safe.
The sensitisation featured engagement with commuters at major bus stops, distribution of informational materials, and practical explanations of common offences and penalties handled by the Special Offences Mobile Court.
Residents were encouraged to obey traffic regulations, maintain environmental hygiene, and conduct their activities in line with existing laws as part of efforts to promote a safe and orderly Lagos.
