Lagos, Nigeria- The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the 2026 edition of the Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026.

The announcement was made as part of preparations for the annual marathon, which will feature both 42 kilometre and 10 kilometre races running concurrently across designated routes within the state.

According to the traffic plan released by the state government, the 42 kilometre race will commence at Ahmadu Bello Way by the MRS Filling Station and proceed through the full length of the Coastal Road, which will serve as the finishing point.

The 10 kilometre race will begin at Durosimi Etti Street in Lekki Phase 1. The route will extend through Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Bishop Oluwole Street, Akin Adesola Street, and terminate at Sanusi Fafunwa Street.

The Lagos State Government stated that all adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections connected to both race routes will be closed to vehicular movement from 12:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the day of the event. The affected roads will be reopened intermittently as the race progresses.

It was further disclosed that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), alongside other security agencies, will be deployed along the affected corridors to restrict access and manage vehicular movement.

Speaking on the traffic arrangement, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured residents that traffic management officers would be strategically positioned to guide motorists throughout the period of the event. He advised road users to plan their journeys ahead of time and make use of alternative routes and other transportation options.

The state government appealed to motorists for patience, noting that the partial road closures form part of the traffic management measures for the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in 2026.

The advisory was issued and electronically signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
