According to information obtained by FIJ, the Lagos State Police Command’s official website has been unavailable for more than a month after its security certificate expired.

When FIJ went to lagos.npf.gov.ng on Wednesday, an error notice alerting them to a security danger was shown. Attackers may steal the info of visitors.

“You are not using a secure connection to access this website. Because it could be stolen by hackers, you should avoid entering any important information on this website, such as credit card numbers or passwords,” the notice said.

An archived version of the website’s homepage that FIJ discovered depicts how it ought to appear if it were publicly accessible.

The website’s security certificate expired more than a month ago, and the Command has not yet released cash to replace it, according to those acquainted with the situation who spoke to FIJ.

The source told FIJ about the scenario on condition of anonymity since they are employed by the police and are required by federal law to refrain from speaking to the media.

“It will cost N800,000 to renew the website’s security, but there isn’t any money available for that yet,” the insider told FIJ. “The website is inaccessible, and it presents a negative image for the focus.”

On Wednesday, FIJ called the Police Public Relations Office, but they declined to comment.

This is not the first instance of a security breach on the website of the state police command. The issue was first covered by FIJ in July, but the website has remained unavailable due to a lack of financing.
