A X (formerly known as Twitter) user, Rae Sparkles, has tagged the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the official Lagos State account, @followlasg, in a social media post to complain of a sudden increase in house rent.

In her post, Rae Sparkles wrote:

“I’m posting this again @jidesanwoolu @followlasg. Is there anything that can be done about this ridiculous increment in house rent within such a short notice? Increasing rent by 1 million naira is too outrageous, especially without any renovation done to the house. Please do something!”

She shared the notice of increment, which reads:

NOTICE OF INCREASE IN RENT

We are Solicitors to Alhaja Oluwatoyin Modupe Awolesi, your landlord (referred to as “Our Client”), and we have her mandate to write this letter concerning the above subject matter as follows:

We write to notify you that, in line with the current rental value of property in that neighbourhood, the rent payable in respect of the Three (3) Bedroom flat apartment and appurtenances you occupy in the above-mentioned premises has now been increased to the sum of N1,800,000.00 (One Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira Only) per annum, with effect from the expiration of your current term.

Please remember that rent is payable in advance, and our client would appreciate prompt payment of your full rent as and when due. Part payment or payment in piecemeal is totally unacceptable.

Thanks for your anticipated cooperation in this regard.
