Lagos, Nigeria- The Lagos State Government made it known today, Friday, that it is evaluating pathways for city wide clean energy solutions to boost climate resilience and economic growth.

The government said the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Gaji Omobolaji, disclosed this at a one day stakeholders workshop on Lagos Energy Climate Action Implementation held at Radisson Blu Hotels, Ikeja. The government explained that the workshop was organised to showcase the outcome of a pilot project under the climate action implementation plan.

According to the government, Gaji, represented by the Director of Climate Change and Environmental Planning, Mr Micheal Bankole, noted that unlocking clean energy potential in the informal and small and medium enterprise sector is essential for a rapidly expanding city like Lagos.

The government added that he said the workshop focused on scaling up solar solutions for households and small and medium enterprises and reinforced the state’s commitment to low carbon development, improved air quality, and climate resilience.

The government said Gaji emphasized that the pilot initiatives demonstrated practical impact and built institutional confidence for scaling up clean energy solutions.

The government revealed that he further stated Lagos State has committed to reducing emissions by 20 per cent by 2025, 45 per cent by 2035, and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

The government said Gaji acknowledged support from C40 Cities, UK funded Urban Climate Action Programme partners, and other government ministries, departments, and agencies.

The government noted that the consultant on the project, Dr Segun Adaju, disclosed that the pilot project took place in communities including Agege, Ikorodu, Yaba, Makoko, Badagry, Apapa, Isheri, and Olowora, supporting small and medium enterprises with plans to expand to residential areas.
