The Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, is set to graduate a total of 7,094 students during its forthcoming combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ibrahim Umar, disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing held on Tuesday at the university’s Senate Chamber.
Professor Umar explained that out of the total number of graduands, 5,707 are undergraduates, 454 will receive certificates and diplomas, while 933 are postgraduate students.
He further announced that the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, Professor Umaru Pate, will deliver the pre-convocation lecture on Friday.
The lecture, titled “Building Trust Amidst Conflict: Communication, Leadership and the Promise of Peaceful Coexistence in Nigeria,” will take place at the Lecture Theatre of the College of Medical Sciences.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that since assuming office, the university has taken bold steps to strengthen its academic and administrative structures through the establishment of additional departments, directorates and units in line with global best practices.
According to him, the university under his leadership has successfully cleared all inherited staff allowances, including academic earned allowances and promotion-related entitlements.
Professor Umar added that about 185 teaching and non-teaching staff have so far benefited from TETFund-sponsored training programmes, while modern equipment has been procured for the newly established Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.
He also revealed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently approved 20 new academic programmes for the institution, including BA Arabic, BSc Mass Communication, BSc Broadcasting, and BSc Journalism and Media Studies, among others.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, Adamawa State Government, and other relevant stakeholders for their continued support towards the growth and development of the university.
