Prior to this weekend’s La Liga rivalry between Real Madrid and Atletico, Kylian Mbappe, the striker for Real Madrid, suffered a thigh injury, his club announced on Wednesday.
The French sensation looked uncomfortable when he was substituted during Tuesday’s 3-2 victory over Alaves.
The Spanish champions released a statement saying, “After tests conducted today by Real Madrid’s medical services, our player Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.”
Mbappe has five goals this season in seven league games, including a fantastic goal in the thrilling match at the Santiago Bernabeu with Alaves.
After the match, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti responded to a question concerning Mbappe’s health by saying, “He’s fine, he’s fine, a little overloaded, he asked me for the change to avoid problems.”
A point behind leaders Barcelona heading into Wednesday’s Catalans match against Getafe, Madrid will take on rivals Atletico at the Metropolitano stadium on Sunday.
In La Liga, Los Blancos are undefeated.
It took the 25-year-old a few games to settle into the Spanish city, but he has already found his rhythm in recent games.
In nine Real Madrid appearances across all competitions, Mbappe has seven goals. He scored on his Champions League debut and in the team’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta in August.
