Authorities have imposed a 12-hour movement restriction across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of security preparations for the February 21, Area Council Elections. The Nigeria Police Force announced that residents will not be allowed to move around from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except those on essential duties or directly involved in the electoral process.
Police Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh said security personnel have been deployed across the territory to guarantee a peaceful exercise, with support from other agencies including the military, Department of State Services, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Ade quoted the Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, as instructing officers to remain professional, impartial and respectful of citizens’ rights while providing security at polling units and collation centres. He urged residents to cooperate with security operatives and comply with election guidelines, assuring voters of adequate protection.
