The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has officially launched the distribution of food palliatives to 70,000 vulnerable households across the state to ease hardship during the Ramadan fasting period and the Christian Lenten season.

‎The statewide exercise began on Friday

‎ with a symbolic presentation of food items to selected beneficiaries in Gombe. The initiative targets persons living with disabilities, orphanages, religious organisations, party support groups, and other disadvantaged citizens.

‎Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Yahaya acknowledged the economic challenges currently faced by many families due to ongoing national reforms and rising living costs. He noted that the intervention is part of a welfare tradition his administration has consistently maintained since 2019.

‎“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that no member of our society is left behind,” the governor stated.

‎He emphasized that both Ramadan and Lent promote sacrifice, compassion, and generosity toward the less-privileged.

‎In recognition of the unique overlap of Ramadan and the Lenten season this year, the palliative programme was also extended to the Christian community, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusivity and religious harmony.

‎Governor Yahaya further directed district heads across the 11 local government areas to join the local distribution committees alongside previously approved members. He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability throughout the process.

‎Chairman of the State Distribution Committee and Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Waziri, assured residents that the distribution would be seamless and transparent.

‎Similarly, Chairman of ALGON and Chairman of Gombe Local Government Council, Barrister Sani Ahmad Haruna, pledged the full cooperation of all 11 local government council chairmen to ensure that the food items reach deserving beneficiaries in line with established guidelines.

‎The initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to social support, unity, and shared responsibility during significant religious observances.
