The Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Musa Panti Filibus, has strongly condemned the recent surge of violent attacks in parts of the country, describing the killing of innocent citizens as a grave violation of God’s divine order.
Speaking at the Church’s 101st Annual National Convention on February 26, 2026, the Archbishop said the gathering was overshadowed by painful national tragedies, stressing the urgent need for justice, peace, and mercy across Nigeria.
He expressed deep sorrow over the reported joint attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents on Krichinga and Shuwari Sholi communities in Madagali Local Government Area on February 24 and 25, which claimed at least 27 lives and displaced many residents.
Archbishop Filibus also lamented the February 21 attack on Garahamojili community in Hong Local Government Area, describing the repeated assaults as heartbreaking and unacceptable.
“Every human life is sacred, created in the image of God,” he stated, emphasizing that violence against innocent citizens is not only a criminal act but also a profound moral and spiritual failure.
While commending government and security agencies for their sacrifices in combating insurgency, he urged them to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and uphold human dignity. He described security not merely as a civic obligation but as a sacred duty, calling for decisive action to address the root causes of terrorism and prevent further bloodshed.
The Archbishop also mourned a tragic motor accident on February 23 involving members of the Church from Simra community of LCCN Dumne Division, Shall-Holma Diocese, which claimed four lives and left nearly 30 others injured. He confirmed that the Church ensured prompt medical care for the victims.
A special prayer session was held in honour of the deceased and in solidarity with affected families, as the Church reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to defend the sanctity of life and advocate for justice and lasting peace nationwide.
