By The Muslim Council of Adamawa State has organised a special Iftar for people with special needs as part of efforts to promote inclusion and strengthen community bonds during the holy month of Ramadan.
The event was held at the council’s secretariat in Yola and brought together individuals with special needs, community leaders and members of the public.
Speaking shortly after the breaking of the fast, the Chairman of the council, Gambo Jika, said the initiative was aimed at fostering stronger relationships between people with special needs and the wider community.
He assured participants that the council would continue to collaborate with them on programmes that would enhance their well-being and contribute to the overall development of society.
Jika also called on the federal and state governments to effectively implement laws and establish institutions or structures that would improve the welfare of people with special needs without unnecessary obstacles.
He further urged members of the public to treat people with special needs with kindness, dignity and respect, stressing that they deserve equal opportunities and full inclusion in society to help reduce the challenges they face.
He also encouraged them to remain hopeful and accept their condition as part of Allah’s divine will, noting that people are tested in different ways.
In their separate remarks, Abdullahi Njidda Damare and Ahmed Tahir advised people with special needs to remain patient and maintain unity among themselves in order to achieve progress and improve their livelihoods.
As part of the programme, the council presented gifts to the participants, including clothing materials and wrappers to enable them celebrate Eid al‑Fitr with joy alongside other members of the community.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the council for the gesture, describing the event as a meaningful show of care that made them feel recognised and supported by society.
