The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said this evening that its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), reaffirmed Nigeria’s strong commitment to global cooperation against illicit drugs and transnational organised crime.
Marwa made the statement during the graduation ceremony of NDLEA officers at the United States Drug Enforcement Administration Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on Friday, February 13, 2026, where he called for stronger international collaboration to match the growing sophistication of criminal networks.
The NDLEA chairman described the ceremony as deeply significant, noting that the training programme was dedicated to Special Investigation Unit members who lost their lives in the line of duty, whom he described as heroes whose sacrifices continue to inspire law enforcement officers worldwide.
Marwa said the course motto, “Different nations, shared duty, one fight,” reflects the shared resolve of partner countries, stressing that transnational crimes cross borders and require coordinated, intelligence driven global responses.
He explained that the intensive programme brought together selected officers from Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya, who were trained in advanced operational skills critical to combating drug trafficking and organised crime.
Marwa expressed confidence that the training would strengthen the capacity of participating agencies to disrupt drug trafficking networks and dismantle criminal syndicates across the region.
He urged the graduating officers to apply the skills they acquired with integrity, professionalism, courage, and a strong sense of responsibility when they return to duty.
Marwa also expressed appreciation to the United States Department of Justice, the leadership of the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the instructors for their continued partnership and commitment to capacity building.
The NDLEA chairman said the graduation marked the beginning of renewed responsibility for the officers to uphold high standards of service, protect vulnerable communities, and confront criminal threats to societal stability.
He added that the partnership between the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration would continue to grow stronger in the shared fight against drug trafficking and organised crime.
