The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Gombe Operations Office, has trained members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on disaster management as part of efforts to boost grassroots preparedness and emergency response capacity.

‎The training session equipped corps members with foundational knowledge in disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, identification of early warning signs, and their roles in supporting communities during crises.

‎Speaking at the programme, Head of Operations at the Gombe Office, Mrs. Ummuna Ahmed, emphasised the need to empower corps members with practical disaster management skills. She noted that many corps members are deployed to communities prone to natural and human-induced hazards, making it essential for them to understand preventive and responsive strategies.

‎Ahmed urged the participants to act as disaster awareness ambassadors in their places of primary assignment and host communities, promoting safety consciousness and resilience.

‎The session was facilitated by Mr. Aliyu Abagha, Search and Rescue Officer at the Gombe Operations Office, who delivered hands-on presentations on emergency response techniques, personal safety measures, and community-based disaster management approaches.

‎The initiative reflects NEMA’s continued commitment to capacity building, youth engagement, and proactive disaster risk reduction across its operational zones.
