Israel-Iran Missile Strikes
Nigeria announces emergency evacuation of citizens amid escalating conflict
Summary
- FG initiates emergency evacuation plans for Nigerians caught in Israel-Iran crisis
- Embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran coordinating with nationals for safe departure
- Government calls for immediate ceasefire and urges diplomatic resolution
Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled emergency evacuation plans for its citizens stranded in Israel and Iran, following a sharp escalation in military hostilities between the two countries. The announcement was made on June 17, 2025, by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The evacuation efforts come in response to ongoing conflict that began on June 13, when Israel launched a sweeping air campaign targeting approximately 100 sites in Iran.
In retaliation, Iran fired multiple missile strikes, including the deployment of advanced Fattah-1 hypersonic missiles, leading to civilian casualties, infrastructural damage, and widespread regional instability.
Nigeria’s embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran have been mobilised to contact Nigerian nationals, coordinate logistics, and provide regular updates. The Ministry commended the embassies’ swift response and urged Nigerians in the affected areas to remain calm, observe local security directives, and register with the nearest Nigerian mission.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad, the FG said it is working closely with international partners and local authorities to facilitate a timely and secure evacuation despite airspace restrictions and ongoing military operations.
In a diplomatic appeal, the government also called for an immediate ceasefire and urged both Israel and Iran to prioritise dialogue over confrontation.
Further information on evacuation procedures is expected to be shared through official government channels as the situation evolves.
