Abuja, Nigeria
The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has rescheduled its youth development programme, “Swim to the Future,” and postponed the National Junior Swimming Championship, “Swim for Life,” following the death of its president, Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu.
In a statement issued by its Media and Communications Department, the federation said the adjustments were made in honour of Dunkwu, who passed away on March 7, 2026. According to the federation, the “Swim to the Future” programme which was originally scheduled to hold on the same day as the president’s death has now been moved to a new date in April 2026.
NAqF described Dunkwu as the sole sponsor of the initiative and a passionate advocate for youth development and the advancement of aquatic sports in Nigeria. The programme was designed to nurture young talents and promote grassroots participation in swimming across the country.
Meanwhile, the National Junior Swimming Championship, “Swim for Life,” initially scheduled for April 2 to April 4, 2026, in Lagos, has also been postponed to allow for improved logistical planning and coordination. The federation added that new dates for both events will be announced through its official communication channels.
NAqF also expressed appreciation to stakeholders, participating clubs, athletes, coaches, partners, and the media for their understanding during what it described as a reflective period for Nigeria’s aquatic sports community.
