Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo and former Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was elected as the new National President of the union on Saturday. Akinsanya, who ran unopposed, was elected during the Quadrennial Delegate Conference held at the NURTW Zonal Secretariat on Osogbo/Ikirun Road, Osun State.
Delegates from four southwestern states — Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti — participated in the election, which was overseen by the union’s acting National President, Aliyu Issa-Ore. Addressing attendees, Issa-Ore, represented by the National Headquarters’ Head of Finance, Mrs. Adedamola Salam, confirmed that the South-West zone had adhered to the union’s constitutional requirements in selecting Akinsanya as President.
Alongside Akinsanya, Tajudeen Agbede was chosen as Vice President for the South-West, and Akeem Adeosun was appointed Trustee for the zone. Upon taking his oath, Akinsanya emphasized unity within the union, calling for peace and expressing his desire for mutual forgiveness among members. “This is our union, and we must remain dedicated to preserving it,” he stated. “We will not allow anyone to jeopardize our livelihood.”
