Nigeria has pledged full commitment to the promotion of the universality of human rights as a mechanism for global promotion and protection of human rights.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar made this known at the 61st ordinary session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa in Abuja, Nigeria maintainer that she believe in the capacity of the council as an indispensable platform for dialogue, prevention, and cooperation among member countries.
The Minister noted that international peace is under siege, emphasizing that this problem is not peculiar to any state or region as it affects all.
“We live in an era where international peace and security are under siege, threatening the hard-won gains of democracy. These threats are not peculiar to any single State or region, they are a global crisis demanding collective resolve.”
“While no nation is immune, Nigeria’s experiences have only deepened our resolve to protect the right to life and the security of all citizens, especially our children, whose right to learn in safety is a sacred priority. To this end, we have accelerated the National Plan on Financing Safe Schools, providing critical investments to secure learning environments,” the statement added.
However, Nigeria pledged to remain steadfast in her commitment to freedom of religion and also to ensure a society where every citizen stands to be protected under the same law.
