Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Army announced yesterday night that it has apprehended Alhaji Tijjani Abdul Rauf, who falsely presented himself as a retired Major General of the Nigerian Army, misleading the public and abusing the prestige of the military institution. The announcement was made by the Army’s Public Relations office.
The Army said that investigations confirmed Rauf was never commissioned into the Nigerian Army, never held the rank of General, and never retired from service. This information was provided by the Nigerian Army headquarters in Abuja.
According to the Nigerian Army, Rauf also falsely claimed attendance at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, and asserted that he received the national honour Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR). The Army stated that all these claims were completely fabricated.
The Army said Rauf used these false credentials to intimidate civilians and to influence court proceedings.
The Nigerian Army warned the public to verify military status through official channels and report any suspicious representations. The warning came from the Army’s spokesperson in Abuja.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity, and accountability in defending the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Public Relations office concluded.
