Nigerian Army Foils Kidnapping Attempt, Rescues Two Victims in Taraba State ‎

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have thwarted a kidnapping and robbery attempt along the Wukari–Ikyior Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, rescuing two civilians from their captors.

‎The successful operation, which took place on January 16, 2026, was disclosed in a press statement issued in Jalingo by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad.

‎According to the statement, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari swiftly responded to a distress call reporting that suspected criminals had blocked the road and were attacking motorists and other road users.

‎ On arrival at the scene, the troops confronted the suspects, who fled into the surrounding bush upon sighting the soldiers, abandoning their victims while escaping with their motorcycle.

‎The rescued victims were identified as Mr. Terso Kerso, aged 48, and Mr. Udongu Terbo, aged 42, both natives of Ikyior Community in Wukari LGA.

‎They were reportedly unconscious at the time of rescue and were immediately evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari (FUTHW), where they are currently receiving medical attention.

‎Following the incident, troops have intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further criminal activities. Residents and commuters have also been reassured of the Nigerian Army’s sustained security presence along major routes within the locality.

‎Commending the troops for their prompt response and professionalism, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised their vigilance and dedication to duty.

‎ He noted that the timely intervention of the troops averted a potential loss of lives and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to proactive security operations across its area of responsibility.

‎Brigadier General Uwa further called on members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to enhance ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security.
