Benue, Nigeria- The Nigerian Army announced today that troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Whirl Stroke have sustained offensive operations against an armed syndicate in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to the Army, troops of Sector 1 Operation Whirl Stroke acted on credible intelligence about the activities of a notorious bandit leader and his associates operating from Mtan village in Utange Council Ward of Katsina-Ala.

The military said troops moved to the location and engaged the armed group in a gun battle, forcing the suspects to flee the area.

During a follow up search, the Army said troops recovered two motorcycles, several magazines, different calibres of ammunition, and empty cartridge casings. A red Toyota vehicle found at the scene was also disabled to prevent its use for further criminal activities.

Major General Gara, according to the Army, urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information, noting that community cooperation remains vital in addressing terrorism and other criminal activities in the area
