United States of America, California- The international music community will turn its attention to Los Angeles on tomorrow, when the 68th Annual Grammy Awards take place at the Crypto.com Arena. Among the artists featured in this year’s nominations are several Nigerian performers whose works earned recognition in categories that highlight both African music and global sounds.
The Grammy Awards, presented by the Recording Academy, honour recordings released between August 31, 2024, and August 30, 2025. During that eligibility period, African music maintained a strong global presence through international tours, digital streaming platforms, and cross border collaborations, with Nigerian artists remaining visible in multiple markets.
In the Best African Music Performance category, Nigerian musicians account for three of the nominated recordings. Burna Boy is nominated for his song Love. Davido appears in the category through his collaboration with Omah Lay on With You. Ayra Starr is also nominated for Gimme Dat, a joint track with Wizkid. The same category also includes Hope & Love by Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin, as well as PUSH 2 START by South African performer Tyla. The award recognises individual tracks that represent African musical expression during the year under review.
Burna Boy is additionally nominated in the Best Global Music Album category for his project No Sign of Weakness. Other albums competing in this category are Sounds Of Kumbha by Siddhant Bhatia, Éclairer le monde – Light the World by Youssou N’Dour, Mind Explosion by Shakti, Chapter III: We Return To Light by Anoushka Shankar featuring Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, and Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo by Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia. This category recognises full-length albums that draw from musical traditions and styles from different parts of the world.
The nominations place Nigerian artists alongside performers from other regions, reflecting the international scope of the Grammy Awards. Collaborations also feature prominently among the nominated Nigerian entries, with multiple artists sharing credits on recognised tracks.
The Grammy ceremony will be broadcast live, with awards presented across numerous genres and fields throughout the event. Winners are selected by voting members of the Recording Academy and will be announced during the ceremony.
As the event approaches, audiences across Nigeria and the global African diaspora are expected to follow the outcome of the categories featuring Nigerian nominees.
