Nigerian music stars have swept the nominations for Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards, as announced by the Recording Academy on Friday. Familiar names like Burna Boy and Asake lead the way, with Burna Boy nominated for his track “Higher” and Asake for his collaboration with Wizkid on “MMS.” Davido also secured a nod for his work on Chris Brown’s “Sensational,” while Lojay celebrates his first Grammy nomination for the same song.

Yemi Alade earned her first solo nomination for “Tomorrow,” while Tems’ “Love Me Jeje” was also recognized. Tems stands out as the only African artist with three nominations across the global music categories, with her debut album Born in the Wild nominated for Best Global Music Album and her track “Burning” for Best R&B Song.

Rema also received a nod for Best Global Music Album with his sophomore project, HEIS. Other Nigerian nominees include Jordan Adetunji, whose viral hit “Kelani” and feature on Bob Marley’s One Love soundtrack earned him a spot in the Best Reggae Album category.

Burna Boy, now on his sixth consecutive Grammy nomination, continues to lead as the most-nominated Nigerian artist in Grammy history. Since his 2020 nomination and subsequent win for Twice as Tall in 2021, African music’s presence at the Grammys has steadily grown.

On the international scene, Beyoncé leads with 11 nominations for her genre-blending album Cowboy Carter, while Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone each have seven nods. Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter follow closely with six nominations each.

The 67th Grammy Awards will take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
