The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced on Thursday, August 28, an upward review of the cost of obtaining the Nigerian Standard Passport, effective September 1, 2025. This announcement was made through a statement signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi. According to the release, the new fees will apply only to applications made within Nigeria.
The statement partly reads, “The review, which only affects Passport Application fees made in Nigeria, now sets new fee thresholds for the 32-page passport with a 5-year validity at ₦100,000 and the 64-page passport with a 10-year validity at ₦200,000.”
However, the statement clarified that “application fees made by Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page passport with a 5-year validity and $230 for the 64-page passport with a 10-year validity.” The statement added that the Nigeria Immigration Service is committed to balancing quality service delivery with the accessibility of passports to all Nigerians.
In August 2024, NIS reviewed the fees for the passport, with the 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity previously charged at ₦35,000 upgraded to ₦50,000, while the 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity, which was ₦70,000, changed to ₦100,000. This review was also announced through a press release in 2024 and took effect from September 1, 2024.
