The Kano State Government has refuted reports alleging that Governor Abba Yusuf snubbed the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, during the Hawan Nasarawa procession, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, the government said the report circulating on some online platforms was unfounded and aimed at creating unnecessary tension in the state.

The government explained that the governor’s absence at the Government House reception for the Emir during the Sallah celebrations was due to an official engagement outside Kano that coincided with the Hawan Nasarawa event.

It noted that the Eid-el-Fitr festivities overlapped with a strategic meeting of governors, which required Governor Yusuf’s presence in Lagos.

The statement added that the governor had earlier communicated his schedule to the Emir and directed the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, along with other senior government officials, to receive the monarch on his behalf.

The statement further disclosed that Governor Yusuf participated in key Sallah activities, including the Eid prayers led by the Emir, as well as the Hawan Daushe in Gaya Emirate. He had also made arrangements to receive other first-class emirs in the state.

According to the government, delegating officials to represent the governor at certain events was in line with established protocol.

The Kano State Government reiterated that there is no rancour or misunderstanding between the State Government and the Kano Emirate Council, stressing that their relationship remains cordial and based on mutual respect, peace, unity, and development. It urged members of the public to disregard the report and rely on credible and official sources for accurate information.
