The Norther Reconciliation Group (NRG) has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in several parts of Northern Nigeria, marked by persistent violent attacks, kidnappings and banditry that have left many rural and semi-urban communities in constant fear.
In a statement jointly signed by its pro tempore Secretary, Dr. Joseph Lengmang, and pro tempore Spokesperson, Professor Usman Yusuf, the group conveyed its sympathy to victims of the recurring violence, noting that the loss of lives, mass displacement and destruction of livelihoods have inflicted severe trauma on affected communities and eroded the region’s social cohesion.
The NRG stressed that the magnitude and frequency of the attacks can no longer be treated as isolated incidents, describing the situation as both a regional and national emergency that demands urgent, coordinated and humane action.
” The protection of human life and dignity remains a core responsibility of government at all levels.” The group said.
It called for intensified, intelligence-driven security operations to rescue abducted persons and dismantle criminal networks. It also urged the deployment of stronger security architecture and early-warning mechanisms, alongside sustained efforts to promote justice, accountability and community-based trust-building initiatives aimed at restoring durable peace across Northern Nigeria.
