Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, announced today on his social media platforms that he has been nominated to serve as a Sub-National Representative on the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association African Region.
According to Obasa, it is not just a personal honour but also a reward to the effort currently being undertaken by the Lagos State House of Assembly and its efforts to increase the strength of democratic institutions.
The Speaker said that within the next three years, between 2026 and 2029, he will play a relevant role in the activities of the committee in advancing democracy, gender equality, respect of human rights, and enhanced parliamentary collaboration throughout Africa. He further emphasized that he will commence the task by attending the 90th Executive Committee Meeting that is set to be hosted in Swakopmund in which deliberations on the future of parliamentary cooperation in the Commonwealth will be discussed.
