Ogun, Nigeria — The Ogun State Police Command announced today that it has intensified operations against vehicles using illegal number plates, unauthorised dealer plates, and sirens or amber lights, in a move aimed at improving road safety, preventing crime, and protecting lives across the state.
The operation targets vehicles with fake, altered, obscured, invalid, or improperly displayed registration plates, as well as those misusing dealer plates to commit crimes. Offenders are being identified, arrested, and prosecuted under the law, while intelligence-led checks continue to disrupt criminal activity on the roads.
Specialised units, including the Motor Traffic Department, Monitoring Unit, and X-Squad, have been deployed to supervise enforcement activities. Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers are overseeing operations in their jurisdictions to ensure transparency, fairness, and strict compliance with operational guidelines.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to cooperate with officers, follow traffic and safety regulations, avoid suspicious vehicles, and use only official motor parks and designated pick-up points. The public is also encouraged to report any security concerns through the Ogun State Police Command emergency line.
The command stressed that the enforcement campaign is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public order, enhance road safety, and protect the rights of all motorists and commuters in Ogun State.
