Ogun, Nigeria – Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, on Friday, August 29, released 130 hectares of land for the construction of the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port along the Epe/Mojoda expressway, Ijebu-Ode. This was revealed in a statement signed by Mr Tayo Mabeweje, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the governor. According to the statement, the release of the land followed the approval of the project by the Federal Government.
This milestone is said to be coming on the heels of the recent certification of Gateway International Airport by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to begin commercial flights, thereby positioning the state firmly on Nigeria’s aviation map and boosting its appeal as a destination for global trade, investment, and tourism.
The statement read, “The project, to be sited on 130 hectares of land graciously allocated by the Ogun State Government, follows a request by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, to Governor Abiodun. The allocation, granted on an ex gratia basis, reflects the Governor’s unwavering commitment to supporting national infrastructure and creating enabling environments for trade and investment.”

According to the release, analysts predict that the project will enhance national trade, economic growth, and development while alleviating congestion at the Lagos port system. It is expected to increase the national GDP and support Ogun State’s industrial hub initiative. The dry port will act as a cargo consolidation and distribution centre for the South-West region, boosting competitiveness and facilitating trade in Ogun State, while also improving the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding area. Linked to the Lekki Deep Sea Port by rail, it will connect to the Kajola and Moniya Ibadan Dry Ports and Gateway International (Agro-Cargo) Airport. Situated within Ijebu-Ode’s Economic Development Cluster, the dry port will improve logistics and transportation efficiency, reduce production costs, and attract industrial investment to the region.
The Governor said, “The Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port and the Gateway International Airport are critical enablers of industrialisation and regional competitiveness. Together, they will transform Ogun State into a logistics and economic powerhouse, creating prosperity for our people and opportunities for Nigeria at large.”
