Abuja, Nigeria
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has released a 23-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Iran and Jordan, leaving out key figures Victor Osimhen and Stanley Nwabali. The squad, announced ahead of the friendly tournament, includes the return of goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who rejoins the national team setup alongside Adebayo Adeleye and Francis Uzoho.
In defense, Chelle retained experienced players such as Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, and Zaidu Sanusi, while also handing a debut call-up to Emmanuel Fernandez. Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Igoh Ogbu complete the defensive lineup.
The midfield unit is anchored by Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi, with Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru also making the list. In attack, Ademola Lookman leads the forward line, supported by Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Chidera Ejuke, Paul Onuachu, Akor Adams, Philip Otele, and Yira Sor.
The omission of Osimhen and Nwabali is likely to generate reactions among supporters, as Chelle appears to be testing new options and assessing squad depth ahead of future competitive fixtures. Nigeria will face Iran and Jordan in the friendlies as part of preparations for upcoming international engagements.
