The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord, citing prolonged internal instability within his former party.
Egbedun disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X handle on Saturday, noting that his decision followed “careful reflection and wide consultation” with supporters, political associates and key stakeholders.
The lawmaker said the persistent crisis in the party had “significantly diminished its readiness to present credible candidates in the forthcoming general election,” adding that he had earlier resigned from the party through his ward chairman.
He explained that his move to Accord was driven by the need to align with a platform that reflects his commitment to the progress, unity and sustainable development of his constituency.
“I firmly believe that Accord provides a more stable, inclusive and people-centred platform through which I can continue to serve the good people of Odo Otin State Constituency with renewed focus and purpose,” he said.
The Speaker also called on his supporters to join him in the new political fold and urged continued backing for the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, saying the state must sustain its current developmental strides.
Egbedun was elected into the House of Assembly on the platform of the PDP before his defection.
