The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three members of a five-man armed robbery gang and recovered stolen goods valued at ₦31,750,000 following an attack on a victim, Ezekiel Inije, along the Coca-Cola area of Asejire, Ibadan.
In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on February 25, the Command disclosed that the operation was carried out through credible intelligence and the swift deployment of the CP Monitoring Unit on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna. The operatives subsequently tracked the syndicate to the Oko area of Ogbomoso, where three suspects were apprehended and the stolen items recovered.
“Upon receiving the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna psc(+), personally directed the CP Monitoring Unit to swing into immediate action. Leveraging human intelligence, technological know-how, and intelligence-driven policing and investigative expertise, the operatives successfully tracked the syndicate to Oko area of Ogbomoso, apprehending three suspects and recovering the stolen items,” the statement read in part.
The police identified the arrested suspects as Chigbo Mesoma, male, 24; Erondu Wisdom, male, 29; and Okechukwu Emmanuel, male, 25. Recovered from them was a Howo Long vehicle with Lagos registration number AAA 724 YJ loaded with 2,000 bags of Karma Agric chicken feeds valued at ₦31,750,000, a cutlass, and an additional Lagos State vehicle number plate with registration number LSR 339 XW.
The Command noted that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the armed robbery, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining two members of the gang, who were described as notorious for highway robbery and hijacking of goods.
CP Haruna commended the operatives of the CP Monitoring Unit for their swift response, professionalism and dedication, and also appreciated members of the public for providing timely and credible intelligence that made the operation successful.
The Command reassured residents of its resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and urged members of the public to continue to support the police with useful information, adding that all intelligence received would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
