The Oyo State Police Command has appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying an unidentified woman found dead in the Egbeda area of Ibadan, as it also launched an investigation into a viral video of a man claiming responsibility for multiple killings in the city.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said the report of the lifeless body was received at the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the statement, a car wash operator reported the discovery after arriving at his stand located around Ile Marun, Iwo Road, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, where he found the body lying in a nearby drainage channel.
“On Saturday, 14th March 2026, a report was received at the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters by a good Samaritan, who stated that earlier the same day, upon arriving at his car wash stand located around Ile Marun, Iwo Road, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, he observed the lifeless body of a woman lying inside a nearby drainage channel,” the statement noted.
Following the report, the Divisional Crime Officer led a team of operatives to the scene, where the body was recovered and observed to have taken multiple violent hits to the head.
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of police operatives led by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), Egbeda Division, promptly moved to the scene. On arrival, the lifeless body of an unidentified woman was found lying inside the drainage. A preliminary examination of the corpse revealed visible marks of violence around the head region, suggesting possible foul play.”
The police added that the corpse was evacuated after proper documentation and deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The command, therefore, urged members of the public, particularly families with missing female relatives, to report to the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters or any nearby police station to assist in identifying the deceased.
“The Oyo State Police Command hereby appeals to members of the public, particularly individuals whose female family members or relatives are currently missing, to report to the Egbeda Divisional Police Headquarters or contact the nearest police station to assist in identifying the deceased.”
Man Claimed Killing 32 People in Ibadan
In a separate development, the police said it has obtained a viral video showing a man identified as Shawama, who claimed to have killed 32 people in Ibadan.
In the video, the man, while being questioned by another individual, stated that he carried out multiple killings and moved freely without being apprehended by security agencies.
“When they wanted to do rubbish against us in Ibadan, we changed it for them. I killed 32. The police saw me and instructed me to go home. They said I tried. Soldiers saw me and said I tried,” he said.
The police, however, said there is no record of such an individual being arrested by its operatives.
“The Oyo State Police Command has obtained a video in which an individual identified as Shawama, in the company of others, claims to have killed 32 people. The Command wishes to categorically state that there is no record of such an individual having been arrested by our operatives at any point.”
The command added that it has commenced a thorough investigation into the claims contained in the video using digital forensics and other technological tools to establish the facts.
It also called on members of the public with useful information to come forward and assist law enforcement in identifying and apprehending the suspect and his accomplices.
The police assured that updates on the progress and outcome of the investigation would be made available in due course.
