Lagos, Nigeria- The Lagos State Government yesterday announced a partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow repair work on failed sections of the road, the government said through the Commissioner for Transportation.
The state government said the rehabilitation will affect the stretch from U Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate on both inbound and outbound lanes and will run for four weeks, from Wednesday, 11 February 2026 to Wednesday, 11 March 2026, through the commissioner.
According to the state government, the work will be carried out in two phases to reduce traffic disruption, with the first phase covering the Abeokuta bound lane from U Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate between 11 February and 4 March 2026, as explained by the commissioner.
The state government said traffic heading toward Abeokuta will be diverted to part of the road away from the construction area during the first phase, while Lagos bound traffic will continue to move freely, the commissioner said.
The state government added that the second phase will focus on the Lagos-bound lane from Obadeyi Bus Stop to Ekoro Junction from 4 March to 11 March 2026, with traffic coming into Lagos diverted, while Abeokuta-bound traffic will not be affected, according to the commissioner.
The state government assured motorists that traffic officials and safety measures will be in place throughout the rehabilitation period and advised road users to plan their journeys, obey traffic signs, and cooperate with officials on duty, the commissioner said.
