By On Tuesday morning, a passenger train from Abuja to Kaduna derailed, causing panic among people within and overturning multiple coaches.
According to information obtained by AFRIKTIMES Online, the incident happened along the well-traveled corridor soon after the train left Abuja at approximately 11 a.m. on its way to Kaduna.Many passengers have described the scenario as chaotic and terrifying, and the incident has led them to run for their safety.
According to an eyewitness, the accident was unexpected, causing confusion as travelers hurried from the derailed cabins.

“It is a total chaos,” the witness remarked. Those who had been verified as saved were observed running in various directions. It was sheer terror.
“We pray that everyone survives, but we cannot confirm if everyone is safe just yet.”
In a phone call with our correspondent on Tuesday, Kayode Opeifa, the managing director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, verified the tragedy and stated that rescue efforts are still on at the scene. “I don’t want to say much right now, but the rescue operation is ongoing and the incident is confirmed,” he said.
As of this report, no casualties have been officially confirmed, although the cause of the disaster is yet unknown.

Over the years, the rail route has experienced numerous delays, including as the terrorist attack in March 2022 that resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous kidnappings.
