Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election in Nigeria, stated that he was saddened upon hearing of another fatal assault in Ngoshe community in Borno State.

According to him, terrorists stormed a military base and an internally displaced persons camp and killed both civilians and soldiers, while others remain missing.

In response to the incident on his official page on X, Obi admitted that he had seen some of the videos of the attack and was shocked and disturbed by it. He noted that the tragedy depicts the bitter truth many Nigerians are still enduring day in and day out due to insecurity.

He wondered how Nigerians can continue enduring suffering due to what he termed as poor leadership and mismanagement. Obi raised the question of how many more people should die before people take the issue in earnest and make every effort to shield communities, offer defense to vulnerable citizens, and also cease the operations of the insurgents.

He further indicated that it is disturbing that even as terrorists continue to kill Nigerians, some political leaders seem to be focused on their own political selfishness and the approaching election rather than the insecurity and the state of the country.

Obi sympathized with relatives who have lost loved ones, displaced children, and the communities that are currently living in fear. He claimed that he sympathizes with them in their grieving and that their security and honor ought to be the main concern of any government.

In his opinion, Nigeria is a country that requires leaders who appreciate and uphold human life at all costs.

He also stated that the nation is even greater than terrorism and individuals cannot stand by and do nothing. Obi stated that citizens need to be saved now and the future of the country should be secured.
