The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect over the alleged killing of a six-year-old girl in Ibadan, alongside the dismantling of a separate impersonation and document forgery syndicate operating within the city.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the command disclosed that the murder incident occurred on April 11, 2026, at Adigun Village in the Olorunda Ogunsola area of Ibadan.
According to the statement, “police authorities received intelligence that a young girl had been unlawfully killed, with her severed head found in the possession of a suspect, Sodiq Kayode Akorede.” Acting on the information, operatives were directed to immediately move to the scene, secure the suspect, and recover the exhibit.
Police operatives, upon arrival, reportedly met resistance from an angry mob but were able to restore order and carry out the arrest.
“The operatives acted with professionalism and restraint to rescue the suspect from mob action, secure the exhibit, and take him into custody,” the statement indicated.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly killed the victim, identified as Mutiyatu Sunday, and severed her head, which was immediately recovered. The police added that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to a medical facility for treatment after sustaining injuries from the mob attack. He is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution.
The police command, however, cautioned against jungle justice, warning that such actions could hinder proper investigation and the course of justice.
In a separate development, the command also announced the arrest of ten suspects linked to a well-organised impersonation and document forgery syndicate operating in the Ogunpa area of Ibadan.
According to the Police Spokesperson, the arrests were carried out on April 9 following actionable intelligence received by the Command Monitoring Unit. The operation led to the apprehension of individuals allegedly involved in forging official documents, stamps, and certificates belonging to government agencies, security formations, financial institutions, and private organisations.
The police identified the suspects as Mumini Akanbi, male, 62 years; Quadri Muhammed, male, 31 years; Salami Tajudeen, male, 50 years; Oladipupo Hammed, male, 45 years; Oladipupo Taiwo, male, 40 years; Olorunosebi Kazzeem, male, 42 years; Fatai Akanni, male, 54 years; Alamu Kazeem, male, 60 years; Olalekan Afeez, male, 42 years; Alex Olanrewaju, male, 64 years

Items recovered during the operation include forged Police Character Certificates, multiple Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stamps, stamps from the Ogun State CID Eleweran Office and Iyaganku Area Command, as well as counterfeit seals from various ministries, banks, and private establishments.
According to police investigations, the suspects functioned as a coordinated network engaged in producing and distributing forged instruments for impersonation and fraudulent activities. The command noted that the suspects have admitted involvement and are providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
While commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police also appreciated members of the public for providing timely and credible information that aided the operation.
It further advised the public to follow proper procedures when obtaining official documents to avoid falling victim to fraud and impersonation.
“Members of the public are also strongly advised to always follow due process and make use of appropriate and official channels when obtaining public documents, certificates, and other sensitive instruments in order to avoid falling victim to fraudsters and impersonators.”
The command assured that investigations into both cases are ongoing and that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
