Angry youths have staged protest in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), demanding the immediate removal and prosecution of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Babayola Muhammad Musa, over the alleged shooting of residents during New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The protesters accused the DPO of being trigger-happy and abusing his office, alleging that he personally opened fire on residents on the night of December 31, 2025. The youths alleged that the DPO fired a tear gas canister at a resident, Abraham Emmanuel, which reportedly struck him in the eye and left him permanently blind.
According to them, Emmanuel suffered severe bleeding after the incident and was rushed for medical attention. Although he later underwent surgery. The injury reportedly resulted in permanent damage and the eventual removal of the affected eye.
During the protest, the youths carried placards bearing inscriptions such as “Justice for Abraham,” “End Police Brutality,” “DPO Musa Must Go,” and “Say No to Police Oppression in Bwari.” The demonstrators demanded justice for the victims and accountability from the police authorities.
Checks by AfrikTimes shows the DPO allegedly fired shots and ordered the arrest of over 150 youths who were celebrating the crossover into the New Year in Bwari, Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
A protester who don’t want his name mentioned alleged that there were plans to absolve the DPO of any wrong doing.
“The Bwari youths have come together this morning to demand justice for one of us who lost his eye after the DPO fired teargas at him on crossover night. The DPO is still in office, and we have information that plans are underway to absolve him of any wrongdoing,” the protester said.
The protesters warned the FCT Police Command against what they described as “attempts to suppress the case”, vowing to continue their protest and occupy the Bwari Police Station until their demands are met.
