Abuja, Nigeria
There was a mild drama today at the Abuja airport as security personnel attempted to arrest former governor of Kaduna State and a leading figure in the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nasir El-Rufai upon his arrival from Cairo, Egypt.
In the face-off with the officers, the former governor said, “If you want to invite me, write me a letter.”

Shortly after the airport incident, El-Rufai confirmed via his X handle that his lawyers have put out a statement, condemning the act by the security personnel.
On X, he wrote, “My lawyers have issued a statement that condemns the illegal attempt to arrest me today at the Abuja airport upon my arrival from Cairo. Our country must outgrow executive overreach and deliberate disregard for the rule of law.”

Recall that in an interview with BBC Hausa some days back, El-Rufai hinted that he might be next in line to be arrested by the ruling government, following the arrest of some prominent opposition figures in the country.
