A four-day free mega medical outreach sponsored by Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe has commenced in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, with a target to provide medical services to no fewer than 15,000 residents.
Flagging off the exercise on Friday at the Demsa Cottage Hospital, Senator Yaroe stressed that access to quality healthcare remains a key priority of his representation. He described the initiative as a vital leadership responsibility aimed at improving the wellbeing of his constituents.
The senator, who represents Adamawa Southern Senatorial District, reaffirmed his commitment to projects that have direct and positive impact on the people, particularly in the area of free and accessible healthcare. He noted that similar medical outreaches had earlier been conducted in other local government areas within the zone, some of them more than once.
Senator Yaroe also commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for the ongoing rehabilitation and upgrade of health facilities across Adamawa State, describing the effort as a major boost to effective healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the event, leader of the medical team, Professor Michael Missauno, described the outreach as “equivalent to bringing a teaching hospital to Demsa.” He disclosed that over 5,000 patients had already been registered while more than 50 surgeries had been successfully carried out.
Professor Missauno explained that the team hopes to treat over 15,000 patients before the exercise ends and called on other privileged Nigerians to emulate Senator Yaroe’s humanitarian gesture.
“Fifteen thousand patients from urban and rural communities will benefit from free medical services, including major and minor surgeries,” he said. He further praised the state government for equipping the hospital with modern facilities, including two new high-quality scanning machines.
He added that a total of 155 medical personnel from across the country are participating in the outreach, offering specialized consultations, surgeries, and other medical interventions.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed deep appreciation to the senator for the life-saving initiative. Among them were Gibson Taraki, who underwent prostate surgery, and Dimas Kechale, treated for hernia. They urged other political leaders to follow Senator Yaroe’s example by investing in the health of the people.
In their separate remarks, the Paramount Ruler of the Batta Traditional Council, HRM Alhamdu Gladson Teneke, and the Principal Medical Officer of Demsa Cottage Hospital, Dr. Mivinya Pongri, applauded the senator’s intervention, describing it as a practical demonstration of genuine concern for the welfare of his constituents.
